Miami Art Scene on the Rise: 7th Annual New Times Artopia Fest

If you haven’t noticed Miami’s explosive art scene, you’ve been living under a rock (or, more likely, a few feet of snow) – case in point: Wynwood’s artsy-fartsy graffiti/music/haute cuisine/mixology orgy is spreading even to the well-manicured lawns of Coral Gables. Last night’s New Times 7th Annual Artopia Festival at the Coral Gables Museum was the perfect combination of DJ dust (three on deck, spinning everything from old school hip-hop to electronica to house), phenomenal eats, and tried and true spirits, proof positive that art is here to stay – IF the city can figure out a way to keep housing affordable for its resident performers and magic creators. If Miami fails to figure it out, I’m afraid the party will be moving elsewhere – let’s not let that happen, people.
