Miami Marlins & Miami Culinary Institute “Taste of Miami” Cook Off a HOMERUN!

Hosted by the Miami Marlins Foundation and the Miami Culinary Institute (MCI), last night’s “Taste of Miami” event provided a great time for the locals while raising much-needed funds for two scholarships in memory of beloved MCI student, Joanna Rodriguez. Although it was unseasonably chilly (YES people, 40 degrees IS considered “freezing” for us!), the crowds came out en masse to enjoy tasty plates from some of Miami’s best restaurants, as well as some kick-arse craft beers (Miami Brewing Company, Islamorada Beer Company) and desserts (Spanish Marie, The Office Cake). A live salsa band kept things hot and the night culminated in a break-neck cook off that pit the scrumptious culinary skills of celebrity Chef Adrianne Calvo (NBC’s “Six in the Mix,” Univision, Chopped, and Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar) against the delectable cooking talents of rock star Chef James Tahhan (Telemundo, Sabores by Chef James); lucky for them, these two kitchen gods had help from sous chef/outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (Miami Marlins, #27) and sous chef/pitcher José Fernandez (Miami Marlins, #16), respectively. Chef James won the contest, but honestly, there were no losers here; the evening was a major hit and proved that nothing stops a Miami party – not even the weather!

1. You haven’t had craft beer until you’ve tasted Miami Brewing Co.‘s “Big Rod” Coconut Beer and “Shark Bait” Mango Beer – omg. AMAZE. They’re instant classics and sure to be your new go-to’s when you not only want to impress your guests, but actually want to love what you’re drinking as well. Addicting!

2. Without a doubt, the star of the night was Miami Marlin’s pitcher José Fernandez – the guy is a RIOT! He kept the crowd in stitches during the entire competition and didn’t let up once. I predict a really successful future for him in entertainment – YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST! Look out, Hollywood!
